Blast in illegal firecrackers unit in Burari; 4 injured
Four persons were injured following a massive blast at an illegal firecrackers manufacturing unit in Delhi’s Burari area on Sunday, officials of the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said.
The injured included three youth and a firefighter, DFS chief Atul Garg said.
The blast occurred at 4.23 p.m. on the ground floor of a building in Pradhan Enclave, which housed the illegal unit. The building also had residential quarters on the first floor, Mr. Garg said.
The explosion triggered chaos in the densely populated area and at least five fire tenders were rushed to the spot, he said.
A senior police officer said the blaze was extinguished, but the area was isolated for a few hours for safety reasons.
“The place is used by an event management company for storing wedding articles such as clothing and cold pyrotechnics. It is suspected that these articles caught fire, which later spread across the building,” he said.
The police said legal action is being taken.
